WHAT IS NCS?

National Citizen Service (NCS) is an exclusive opportunity open to all 16 and 17 year olds across England. We deliver NCS in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Merseyside and Cheshire – if you live in one of these counties, you’re in the right place! Read on to find out more about what NCS is and how it can benefit you.

NCS is all about helping young people (you!) get ahead in life – you’ll learn some fantastic new skills, meet some amazing new people and find out how you can make a real difference in your local community.

PHASE 1
ADVENTURE

Along with thousands of other young people across the country, you’ll spend time away from home doing outdoor challenges, meeting new people and building your confidence. You’ll experience a range of exciting outdoor activities like rock climbing, bushcraft, zip-lining, rafting or archery.

PHASE 2
SKILLS

You’ll work with local businesses and charities to build a killer CV and learn valuable employability skills through a range of interactive workshops. You might practice interview skills, learn how to cook, try your hand at falconry or first aid, or even find out about issues in your community.

PHASE 3
SOCIAL ACTION

Using all your new skills you’ll create your own community project to benefit your local area. You’ll choose, design and create your own project around a cause you’re passionate about – hold a mini-festival, build a skate ramp, make a park beautiful – it’s your choice.

WHY SHOULD I DO NCS?

NCS is great fun!

You’ll try exciting new activities, learn new skills and meet loads of new friends. Feel amazing about making a real difference to your local community. NCS looks great on your CV and shows employers and universities that you’ve got great teamwork, leadership and communication skills.

Over 98% of those who took part in the programme last year would recommend it to their friends and 92% said that they’d developed more skills for the future. What better way to spend your summer? (or autumn half term of course! 😉 )

WHEN IS IT?

NCS runs during the school holidays – places are available in October half term or during the summer holidays. If you’ve got a holiday planned during the summer, let us know – we’ve got dates to suit everyone.

Check out our summer 2017 dates!

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Because NCS is backed by the government, it costs only £50 to take part, covering all accommodation, transport and meals (during the residential phases), activities and equipment. Bursaries are also available. You pay this fee when you sign up to confirm your place on the programme.

CAN I BRING MY FRIENDS?

Yes – most definitely! We know you’ll make new friends on NCS, but it’s always nice to have someone you know along too. Get them to sign up right now!

I’m really glad I did NCS; the communication and business skills I developed are invaluable as they’ve really helped me with interviews for college and jobs.
